Ignacio Ferrando (Trubia, Asturias, 1972) is a writer and an engineer, a Professor at the Technical School of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and Head of Studies for the Masters in Fiction at the School of Writers in Madrid, where he also holds workshops on Short Stories and Critical Reading.

Ferrando has published the novels "Referencial" (2019, Tusquets), "The stilness" (2017, Tusquets), "The darkness" (2014, Menoscuarto) and "A centimeter of sea" (2011, Alberdania) which has been awarded with the RNE 2011 “Critical Eye” and by the City of Irún. He is also author of various collections of short stories, including: “The skin of strangers” (2012, Menoscuarto; Setenil Story Award), “Sicily, winter” (2008, JdeJ) and “Inner ceremonies” (2006, Castalia; Tiflos Story Award). His work has been included in various anthologies and collective books, including: “21st Century. The new names in current short stories” (2010, Menoscuarto) "Madrid, Nebraska" (Bartleby, 2014), “Disturbances” (2009, Salto de página) and “A lump in the throat” (2009, Trama Editorial). Some of his stories have been translated to English and German. He also contributed to “Chejov Commented” (2010, Newsky Proyect) and “The family in the air” (2011, Páginas de Espuma).   

 

Ferrando has received prestigious awards for his fiction work, including: the 2010 Gabriel Aresti, the 2006 Hucha de Oro, the 2008 Juan Rulfo, the 2008 City of San Sebastián, the 2007 UNED Fiction Award, the 2006 NH Vargas Llosa, the 2007 City of Huelva 2007 and the Fernández Lema, among others.

 

He has given conferences on critical reading and writing at the University of Turin, the CSIC, the Orivesi College of Arts (Finland), Creative Schrijven (Belgium), Universidad Complutense,(Madrid) and the Alcala University, among other centers.
